somatic movement for emotional balance

Somatic movement supports emotional and nervous system regulation in a gentle way, simply by moving in a way that helps you to:-

  • Connect to your body & breath

  • Increasing your ability to sense yourself as you move

  • Teaches you to recognise postural responses to stress, trauma and anxiety

Connecting to your body as you move

We do this by increasing body awareness :-

  • Sensing your posture and breath

  • Feeling the sensations of how your feet or body make contact on the floor,

  • Subtle internal sensations like your breathing

Increasing your ability to sense yourself as you move

We do this by :-

  • Moving slowly and gently

  • Together with a unique technique to somatics where you actively tighten your muscles and slowly release them. Rather than forcefully stretching

  • Pausing after each movement to give your nervous system time to integrate

  • Noticing your breath as you move

Teaches you to recognise postural responses to stress, trauma & anxiety

The three postural responses to stress are the nervous system’s way of protecting you, these natural responses should only be there “in the moment” but repeated stress keeps our nervous system on high alert, becoming out of balance.

Signs of this show up in our posture and also as :-

Tight & Painful muscles

Shallow breathing

Poor sleep

Poor digestion

An inability to relax, feel calm & focused.

The somatic movements are based on these reflex responses which are natural ways of moving, we move in a way of gently “leaning into” what is already tight, what we subconsciously hold onto, to create more ease, freedom and clarity.
