“Your Body will Thank You"

I’ve just come back from a beautiful sunny walk, almost reminiscent of a summer’s day, the change in the leaves, conkers & hawthorn and the empty tilled fields reminding me it is autumn.

It’s truly a gift to walk with ease and pain free because you can really take in the beauty of nature and not be concerned about how far you can walk without worrying how you’ll get back, whilst trying not to increase your pain by tripping, slipping or putting a foot down in a way that will trigger a spasm! I know I’ve been there!

When we are not in pain, we can take walking and how we walk for granted, but we can be more aware of how we walk and there are benefits to this. On Sunday, I introduced a group of new students to the foundations of Clinical Somatics and as many of my current students know, we often book end a class with a walking assessment. I love teaching this, especially to new students who have probably never really assessed their walking pattern, (they may have been assessed by a Dr or therapist) and been told what the doc sees, but not had a felt sense of it themselves, a Somatic sense of themselves, from their first person perspective.

Honing this skill can give you clues as to where your body is holding tension, then, equipped with knowing the Clinical Somatics movements , you know exactly how to help yourself to restore a more balanced gait. You are not relying on someone else, waiting for your next appointment to be “clicked” “massaged” or “needled” back into ease. It is that empowering!!

It’s truly life affirming for me to teach this work, especially when I see new student’s having those “A-ha!” moments!

If you’ve missed this current in person course, you can begin today by taking my self paced video course.

More inspiration this week comes from M, do take a moment to listen to why she practices Somatics with me and thank you M for taking the time to do this.
